5 out of 30 Most Successful Lawyers in Ukraine Practice Law at Vasil Kisil & Partners

On July 3, 2010, Focus Magazine published the first ever listing of “30 Most Successful Lawyers in Ukraine” describing each representative of the Ukrainian lawyers elite.

Virtually all of the top thirty lawyers in Ukraine practice law in the capital of Ukraine. There are 6 representatives of the gentle sex in the top 30, including Tatyana Slipachuk, VKP’s Partner running the International Trade and International Arbitration Practice Group. The listing also includes Oleg Makarov, VKP’s Managing Partner, Vadym Belyanevych, VKP’s Senior Counsellor, Oleg Alyoshin, Partner running the Energy & Natural Resources and Real Estate & Construction and Infrastructure Practice Groups, and Oleksiy Filatov, Partner running the Litigation and Intellectual Property Practice Groups.

The primary criteria used by Focus in its ranking were valid certificate to practice law (advocate’s certificate) and mandatory legal practice. Based on these guidelines, 80 lawyers were selected, from which top 30 lawyers were subsequently shortlisted. For this reason, the shortlist does not include such prominent names as Vasil Ivanovych Kisil, Senior Partner of Vasil Kisil & Partners and a legendary professor of the International Private Law at the National Taras Shevchenko University of Kyiv and, from January 2010, the lecturer of the Diplomatic Academy of Ukraine of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.

Focus Magazine selected the best from the best on the basis of expert reviews by peers and by the Ukrainian Bar Association and judges. Expert reviews covered six categories: understanding of client’s interests and offering of the most efficient solutions; development of efficient interest protection strategy; quality of preparation of procedural documents; case handling/oral pleading tactics; moral and ethical qualities of a lawyer, and professional mediation (ability to persuade an adversary party for an amicable settlement).
